ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I came into the world of art through the back door. I am not a traditional or trained artist. When I was growing up in Texas there were no art classes offered in our school system. It was in my mother's gift and flower shop that I learned about basic design and the use of color and texture.

I never knew I enjoyed painting until I was grown. I first started painting in the 60's for my own pleasure. While living in Arizona, I began experimenting with acrylics, collage and watercolors with a group of my friends.

After moving to Nebraska, I did not paint for more than twenty years. Life was just too complicated. I did take some interior design classes at the University and I enjoyed the challenge of the artistic assignments. I was introduced to clay painting at a watercolor class my daughters and I were taking. I found it to be intriguing and fun. It was very tactile and relaxing, much like adult finger painting. These painting are the results of my experimentation. I hope these paintings draw you in and make you want to linger a while. I loved painting them.
