ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I strive to create sculptures that show the personality of the subject that I am working with. Whether the subject is a young child, a mother and her children, a cat or a horse, they are all unique and have very definite characteristics.
My sculptures often also incorporate the sense of movement, (or the potential of movement) to add another dimension to the work for the viewer. Texture can also change a sculpture dramatically, so I often will do similar sculptures with very different finishes.
Most of my works use very simple flowing lines with the viewer's mind filling in the dimensions. The use of positive and negative shapes interact with available light and the space surrounding them to create many variations from the same sculpture.
Primarily, I use steel, aluminum, and brass to create my ribbon sculptures. However, I also enjoy working in wood (from realistic birds to 20' totem poles), bronze, (from people to animals), clay (from pottery to brick sculptures) and photography (from dance to scenic).
