Sandy Meyer
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Sandy's painting is an extension of her lust for life. Painting
became important to her in 1986 after cancer surgery left her right hand disabled. She wedged a paint brush between her fingers and
took an oil painting class while receiving radiation treatments in Omaha. Nine years after surgery her hand
has nearly recovered to normal. Artwork has given her the courage to find a new lease on
life.
Although she has had no formal art education, she has attended several workshops. They
have given her the opportunity to observe the techniques of many artists and to form her own style. Sandy has
found that she expresses her self best with water colors. Her paintings are full of color and life and
invite you into a special place in your heart and mind.
The last two years have been special years for here in the awards department. Last year she had a
piece called "Just Butts" in the State Association of Art Clubs twenty seven city Traveling Show.
This year she has a special painting named "Dream Machine" in the traveling show. She has also received
first place in the professional watercolor division at the Nebraska State Fair for the last two years,
thus receiving the "All Nebraska Artist Medal". Sandy has also been honored to have been elected as vice president of the Association of
Nebraska Art Clubs.
Sandy is represented by the Art & Gift Gallery in North Platte; the Jim Tillett Art Gallery in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and
the Noyes Gallery in Lincoln.
She makes her home in North Platte, Nebraska with her husband of 28 years. Their children are grown and away from the nest.
